Guest(s): "Kwee-Wee" Alan Funk & Butterbean
Date: 3/11/09
Your Hosts: Patrick Kelley, James Walsh, & Nick Noel

No show ever goes off without a hitch. While my mic skipped a few times, overall this is a great show and a pretty strong example of what we hope to accomplish with our live show.

One of our favorite guests from 2008, Alan Funk stopped by and had some fun with us. Then, we discussed wrestling and I go off on a tangent that frightens one of my co-hosts! The, Butterbean joins us for a really good interview!

Get a taste of what we can do! Take a listen!

ALAN FUNK

- Alan Funk calls into the show.and tells us about some shady dealings on the independent scene. He says that one time Dusty Rhodes didn't pay him for a show once, and says unfortunately that thing happens quite a bit. Fortunately, he has never been hurt real bad and tries to ask for payment up front first.

- His tanning salon went out of business since our last interview with him. Right now he is involved with an MMA Fight School. He has no intention of actually fighting in MMA, but loves that other wrestlers are getting into MMA and doing well (Brock & Lashley)

- He has not gotten a call from TNA to come in even though Russo talked to him about it. He also met with WWE, but is doubtful of getting in there because of all the releases they've made. TNA has been letting guys go and he's heard they aren't doing well financially.

- Funk says that ever since WCW went away, it seems like wrestling has gotten worse year by year. He says that if TNA folds, it would only get worse. With only WWE, there is obviously not many options for guys.

- When speaking of the Indy scene, Funk says that some promotions are better than others and when speaking of places to stay and hotels, he's actually stayed at promoters houses in the past. NWA: Anarchy is one of his favorites to be involved with.

- Right now he's alternating between his personalities, but says that Angry Alan Funk gets over the best. His "Funkster" gimmick he feels that it wouldn't last extremely long if it did get over big and would need to do something with Hogan to make it work. Funk says the gimmick also restricts him athletically.

- Since his major injury, he says he isn't entirely unwilling to take certain moves as long as he really trusts the guy he's working with.

- He has not seen "The Wrestler" He does say that the contradiction in the movie is that most veterans don't do the crazy stuff ("unless you're Terry Funk")

- When talking about Terry, Alan tells the story of how he met him and how shocked he was when it turned out when they had the same last name. He says he still gets that from other people.

- He's been trying to get back over to work in Japan and really wants to work there again.

- When asked about the media coverage of the Chris Benoit tragedy, Funk says that they definitely didn't do the proper research. He also says that if they want to see what wrestling is like then they should learn to train & take bumps and see how easy it is.

- We then ask him about his relationship with the man that gave him his major injury, Sonny Siaki, and says that they get along well. He says that he was upset when the injury happened, and he says that Siaki never really apologized, but he's told him that he doesn't hate him and everything is cool.

- On the 1st interview he mentioned Luger ditching him on that lunch, and he says that since then he has gotten into touch with Lex and he said that he "forgot" about the lunch.

Butterbean

- Butterbean joins the show and immediately talks about his time on Hulk Hogan's CCW. He says there were some conflicts, but overall he had alot of fun doing it, and it was good to be a part of it. Some said it wasn't fair that he & Rodman had some experience working in wrestling before, but Butterbean says that the only thing he had really was being comfortable infront of a crowd. He also says that their acting experience was also an important part of wrestling that gave the other participants something to work with. He had a hard time learning how to work the fights because his instincts are to fight for real.

- Jimmy Hart's comment about him "Flopping around like a whale", Butterbean says that it didn't offend him because it was Jimmy's job to say things like that.

- He is actually taking wreslting bookings now and looks forward to the oppurtunity. When asked if he can handle it, he says that he's done Wrestlemania and after that he can be prepared for anything.

- He says that he would love to do Wrestlemania again if he was offered the chance.

- When asked about knocking out Bart Gunn, he says that Bart tried to box too much and that led to his downfall. He says that Bart is a tough guy, but the WWF wanted him knocked out because he was getting a big chip on his shoulder and thats why they brought him in.

- He really enjoyed working iwth Marc Mero & Sable and says they are both good people.

- He got the name Butterbean when dieting. He was trying to drop some weight & he ate nothing but chicken & butterbeans. His friends got wind of it and started chanting "Butterbean" in one of his fights, the people caught on to it, and it just grew from there.

- When asked about Rodman winning CCW, he felt like he had done more than Rodman did. He said that Rodman screwed up alot actually and that he wasn't as dependable. He says that if he had to pick a winner, he'd pick Todd Bridges.

- When asked about Dustin Diamond, he says that he got under his skin alot and his attitude was bad. Butterbean roughed him up a little bit. He gave him props for getting right back up though.

- On Frank Stallone, he says that he got along with him very well. He says that Frank didn't want to do certain things, but understood why. He was also impressed at how well Frank can sing.

- We bring up the story of Frank getting stiffed by Rodman, and Buttetbean says that Rodman didn't know how to hold back in what he was doing. Butterbean says that Rodman got him good with a chair won, and thought that was another reason Rodman shouldn't have won.

- James brings up how much they improved throughout the course of the show. Butterbean says it isn't easy at all, and he says in the short time period they worked, they all improved.

- Right now he owns a restaurant in Atlanta that he's working with. He also has a real busy schedule with promoting MMA shows & spending time with his family.

- When asked about the growth of MMA, he says that part of what really helped it grow was when they added more rules to it to make it safer and easier to follow. It is also interesting that they mixed many more forms of fighting into it.

- Butterbean feels that is cool that former pro wrestlers are succeeding in MMA and puts over Brock Lesnar.

- He also mentions how different the fans of wrestling are from MMA. He says that he was booed intiially at Wrestlemania, but then got cheered when he knocked out Gunn. In MMA, the fans don't switch like that. He also says that he was worried that he hurt Bart because he fell pretty hard.

- His ring attire with the Red, White, & Blue trunks was something that he developed before American Pride really came about. He said that he participated in a World Torunament and felt he needed to show that USA was a force to reckon with and he wanted to show off his pride.

- The interview ends with some plugs for his Myspace, and he promises if he ever comes back on he'll tell us more Frank Stallone stories!
