Daivari has been around for a while yet is an incredibly young wrestler who
has a firm grasp on the concepts of this business. From the WWE to TNA, Daivari
has always been a controversial and thought provoking wrestler who has pushed
the limits both with his character and in ring ability. Now, in his first
interview since leaving TNA, Shawn Daivari tells the whole story!
SHAWN DAIVARI
- Shawn Daivari AKA Sheik Abdul Bashir joins the show & the discussion
begins with a discussion about the Monday Night showdown between WWE &
TNA. He says that he watches all the wrestling he can, and definitely watched
both shows. He said it was a big thing to have two wrestling companies on
the same night, and more comprable ratings data for both companies to measure.
When asked which show he thought was better, he felt like both of them had
their good & bad points. He also wonders if he is the target demographic
for either show. He thought both shows had some very interesting things to
offer (Hogan, Hall, Nash, & Waltman on one show, & Shawn & Bret
on the other) but wonders if those things would appeal to current fans.
- He had just left TNA and he says the reasoning was that he wasn't happy
with his creative direction. He admits that he was a "great talent, but not
a good employee" in that he used to bother creative. He says he's never not
done something he's been told to do, but he is vocal about his opinions of
the direction. He cites Jarrett as a great guy to work with that was open
to hearing his ideas. Daivari admits that he would be open to coming back
to TNA at some point in the future.
- When Jarrett was "sent home" by TNA, he admitted that it didn't change
things that much outside of the fact that he was the top guy to go to when
it came to discussing his creative direction.
- In comparing WWE & TNA management, he says that he hardly got blown
off in WWE blow him off, and says that Vince, Stephanie, Taker, Triple H,
& Cena always found time for him.
- TNA changed his name to Sheik Abdul Bashir because they wanted to own the
wrestler's name. He credits Dutch Mantell for coming up with the name. He
said that he didn't have a problem with the name change because they invested
TV time into him.
- When asked about Locker Room reaction to Hulk Hogan, while he was there
it was a "lets wait and see" kind of reaction from the boys. He said that
the guys who were actually there for Hogan's debut probably have a better
idea of how things are going to go down.
- There was some controversy with his TNA theme song and the apparent plane
crash sound effect tacked onto the beginning. He had heard a little bit about
it, but he didn't notice. When asked if he's bothered by accidentally causing
controversy, he says that the attention usually works out in his favor, so
he doesn't mind.
- He feels like he gets type casted, but he's also found a character that
gets him attention, and nobody seems to be sick of it yet, so he feels that
he can still get something out of the character.
- When talking about Evan Bourne, he feels that he got over because he is
truly unique in the WWE and he easily stands out. He recalls a story where
CM Punk was offered deals with both WWE & TNA, and Daivari advised him
to go to WWE because he felt he would stand out more there.
- In the future, he's got some Indy spots coming up and might be working
some dates in ROH. He would also like to work in Mexico as well. He also
says that he left both WWE & TNA on good terms and is open to going back
to either company. He also says that he would like to be the kind of talent
that will not have trouble finding work. He cites William Regal as an example
of somebody who could get fired tomorrow and would have no problem finding
work.
- In cutting good promos, he feels that its best to believe in what you're
saying. He says that he is very good at speaking from the heart and doesn't
like to have people write for him. He says that some guys on the other hand
really do need a something written for them, and he's very good at delivering
those scripted lines.
- He had just spoken to Hassan the morning of the interview, and they had
a good discussion. He says that Hassan is doing well outside of wrestling.
- When asked what his biggest heel reaction was, he says its very hard to
remember because in addition to TV, they are doing live house shows, so he
doesn't really remember because all the days run together.
