Rant- The WWE Brand Split has to end

Submitted By Caroline Walsh on 01/24/08
From Forum Member Cloud:

Almost six years ago the WWE began a brand split, the idea was to split te company into two (eventually three) brands & the obvious hope was to do double, then triple as many PPVs, House Shows, and Tours all the while to make double or triple the amount of new stars with so many spots available, in other words, great idea in theory.

Unfortunately, six years later & the split is clearly a brain dead terminally ill patient who won't be allowed to die (ok that's probably a little extreme, but you now what I mean). The split is clearly a failure & here are examples.

The WWE wanted to do mostly two things with the split: 1. Make twice as many new stars & 2. make twice as much money. Unfortunately, the WWE has largely failed in these.

First the company has wasted many potenial names in the last six years going through as many as 50 young wrestlers either from the WCW purchase, the ECW Purchase, or through the minor leagues. Wrestlers range from guys like John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley, Carlito, Umaga, The Basham Brothers, Tomko, Kevin Thorn, The Highlanders, Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, John Morrison, Mark Jindrak, Chuck Palumbo, MVP, Luther Reigns, Kenny Dykstra, Johnny Jeter, Mike Mondo, Nick Nemeth, RO'Z, Matt Morgan, Muhammad Hassan, Tank "James Dick" Toland, Chad Dick, Jamie Noble, Shannon Moore, Paul London, Brian Kendrek, Shawn Stasiak, Mr. Kennedy, Joey Mercury, Heidenreich, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, the Great Khali, Elijah Burke, Vito, Cryme Tyme, Rico, Rhino, Lance Storm, CM Punk, Rellik, Nunzio, Maven, Jimmy Wang Yang, The Edgeheads, Ballz Mahoney, Orlando Jordan, Brent Albright, & Rob Conway & I'm sure there's more. Now obvious a lot of these guys weren't going to make it, but a lot of these guys could've been so much more, if not a WWE Champion, then an Intercontinental champion, or Tag team champions or something else, yet most of these guys are still wasted or were never given a chance and even the ones that have made it was very few like Cena, Batista, Orton, Lesnar, & Lashley haven't set the world on fire either due to bad booking, limitations, or something else, & the ones like Kennedy, MVP, & Punk who do have potenial haven't been allowed to get to the next level.

To make matters worse, not only have the WWE failed to makes stars to bring the WWE to the next generation, but they continue to push the stars of yesteryear. HHH & Undertaker are scheduled to be in the main events of Wrestlemania & continue to bury younger wrestlers that are 50 feet from them, Shawn Michaels main evented last year, & Ric Flair continues to get a bigger push & more titles than 3/4 of the roster gets & continully gets wins over younger guys. Then there are guys like Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, & Mick Foley who pop up at least once a year & the company has since brought back guys like Chris Jericho, JBL, & the Big Show.

Then as for doing twice as many shows, the company hoped to do twice as many house shows and PPV, but PPVs nowadays have lower buyrates than before the split & House shows maybe a quarter what they were doing six years ago. Meanwhile this part is proof postive that the split is on its last legs, ECW no longer does house shows, instead they do shows with Smackdown, meanwhile split PPVs have ended, & Smackdown & ECW wrestlers pop up on each other shows, cause the rosters have gotten so shallow.

Meanwhile, Titles have become meaningless cause theres too many of them right now there 7 active men championships, there are now three world titles, which means wrestlers now have triple the chance to become world champion, they're are two secondary titles as well which mean the chance to be a secondary champion have doubled, and they're are two tag team titles and right now both are being held by thrown together team who are likely to break up the minute they lose the titles.

All in all, I think it was a good idea in theory, but I think if the WWE wants to reclaim they're former glory, they need to begin to end the split & go back to the way it was, with the number of releases & injuries, the company can't keep this up & even they know this as Smackdown & ECW do house shows together, Smackdown & ECW wrestlers regularly appear on the other show, & the split PPVs have since ended, & wreslers seemed to jump to other brands for little or no reason. Personally, I don't think the WWE will end the split anytime soon, but I think the sooner the better.
