THE RANT: Michael Hayes' Suspension is a Damn Joke

Submitted By James Walsh on 04/23/08
Carlos Mencia once shared a joke where he said if he couldn't tell a joke about black people in Oakland, he shouldn't tell that joke anywhere. Using that logic, which is correct logic by the way, if black people are offended by the infamous "N" word, they should stop using it.

The double-standard of "I can but you can't" is becoming painful to everyone in society. I don't like the "N" word and choose not to use it. I don't choose not to use it because I don't feel I have the right to use it. I choose not to use it because I think nobody should... No matter how "cool" some people seem to think it sounds set to music.

So, Michael Hayes wears a Doc Hendrix style suit at the Hall of Fame and MVP says that Hayes is more of an "N" word than he is. Ha, ha, ha. Funny joke, right? Well, Hayes repeats that same thing to the talentless blob that is Mark Henry and all hell breaks loose.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Does this not show that our quest for"political correctness" robs our amendment for free speech? If I want to stand up here and make every racial slur I choose to, I should have the right to do so. I would be a complete dick for doing it, but being a dick is not against the law. If it was, there would be no politicians.

Michael Hayes has been in wrestling for 30 years. And, those are 30 successful years. He was a successful wrestler, manager, TV personality, road agent, and now booker/writer or whatever the hip term for it today is. Something tells me that if this guy survived 30 years with steroided up guys who are short tempered from their insane work schedule, he probably isn't a dick, racist, or deserving of punishment for either of the before mentioned.

I know WWE did what they had to do because of the annoyance that would follow if they didn't and it got out in the press. But, come on! Are we really here as a society? Are we really saying you can say offensive shit as long as you say it about yourself?

I say no. If you can't tell a joke about fat people at a Fat Farm, you shouldn't tell that joke at all. And, you shouldnt say the "N" word no matter if you're white, black, yellow, orange, green, or purple.
