WWE Night of Champions Preview & Predictions by James

JOHN MORRISON & THE MIZ VS. HORNSWOGGLE & FINLAY- WWE TAG TITLES With the draft's results sending Finaly and Hornswaggle to ECW, not a lot changes! I know individuals in the WWE get humor out of midgets. Why else would they have employed Kid Kash a few years ago? But, one title already died because of the "Little Bastard" so I do not think another one is about to join the Cruiserweight belt. Therefore, I am putting my prediction money, valuable at any fine pawn shop, on the current champions! Winners: The Miz & Johnny Morrison KANE VS. BIG SHOW VS. MARK HENRY- ECW WORLD TITLE This match is getting panned by the Internet. Usually I'd say that it was just because it is a big man match and with the current misunderstanding of pro wrestling thinking wrestlers have to flip around more than Sonic the Hedgehog, big men are pretty much hated. But, I agree this time as it involves Mark Hengry who is really just a complete waste of space. Kane has been a solid champion for the ECW brand. The Big Show was a strong champion for the ECW brand back in 2006. Sadly, I think we're going to find out how strong of a champion the "World's Strongest Man" is. That's right, I'm predicting Mark Henry wins the ECW title... God help us all. Winner: Mark Henry MATT HARDY VS. CHAVO GURERRO JR.- UNITED STATES TITLE I think this match, by all accounts, could be the sleeper hit of the night. Matt Hardy has all the toops, minus charisma, to be a big player in this business and Chavo Guerrero has always been such a strong second generation performer. Storyline wise, it makes more sense for Chavo to capture the belt as he has been strongly associated with the champion Edge. Plus, with Hardy's switch to ECW, he's already a big fish in a much smaller pond than SmackDown! is. The US title isn't that important to him staying that big fish. Winner: Chavo Guerrero HOLLY & RHODES VS. TED DIBIASE JR. & MYSTERY MAN- WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES I like Cody Rhodes a lot and I might be one of the few who really has a lot of respect for Hardcore Holly. But, as a tag team, they've not really done much. The story of them becoming a team was rushed and their match where Cody beat Hardcore was entirely rushed. So was their capturing the belts. I think it is time to rectify that problem. Who will Ted DiBiase pick as his partner? Conventional wisdom told us it would be DH Smith that would pair up with Ted DiBiase. But, just over 500 years ago, conventional wisdom told us the world was flat. And, the draft proved conventional wisdom wrong yet again. Who will it be? I will go with a shot out of left field and say what Patrick Kelley said... I think JBL will be the mystery tag partner. Why? Birds of a feather flock together. Wouldn't it make sense for the son of the "Million Dollar Man" to befriend a man who is a self-made millionaire? That is not to mention that JBL has nothing better to do at this time. Winners: Ted DiBiase & JBL CHRIS JERICHO VS. MYSTERY OPPONENT- IC TITLE MATCH Chris Jericho has been feuding with Shawn Michaels. It has been 13 years since Shawn Michaels held the Intercontinental title. While I'm much more a fan of giving the IC belt to a young star, wouldn't it be cool for the sake of nostalgia to have HBK with the IC belt once again? Obviously, I think Shawn Michaels is going to be the opponent. I think that would be the most exciting option. Winner: Shawn Michaels MICKIE JAMES VS. NATIE LEA- DIVA CHAMPIONSHIP I think it would be exciting to see something new in the women's division. So, why not have Natalia, the daughter of Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart capture the Women's title? Mickie has done great with the belt. By all accounts, she should still be in that title scene. But, wouldn't it be exciting to see a belt like that cross brand lines? Winner: Natalia BATISTA VS. EDGE- WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE With "The Animal" being switched to RAW as part of the draft, I don't think there is much chance at all that he'll walk off with the World title. Edge is just the perfect heel champion. I expect a major screw job by Vickie. But, regardless, Edge keeps the belt. I have little doubt of it. Winner: Edge JOHN CENA VS. HHH- WWE TITLE Since John Cena dropped the belt, the belt has remained a spinner belt. I don't care for that look but I think it is just obvious that at some point, the belt is coming home to the "Gangsta of Thuganomics". Tonight will probably be that night. Triple H is such a solid performer. But, with his draft to SmackDown! and since I don't see Edge dropping the belt right now, I don't see him holding on to this belt... I see him gunning for Edge's. Therefore, much like I said in the prior match, I expect a screw job... I expect Edge will somehow cost Triple H the match under the guise of wanting to be the only World Champion on SmackDown!. Makes sense, doesn't it? Winner: John Cena Overall, I think this card has a lot of potential. I think a lot of life is breathed into it because of the uncertainty of it all thanks in part to the draft and also in part to the mystery surrounding the Intercontinental contender and the partner of Ted DiBiase.
