Raw Report
Here we go again--week 2
This isn't easy for me to do as I don't enjoy the current product and having said that, I'm sure my opinions and thoughts may cause some bad feelings between myself and those I critique, although not doing this to hurt or belittle the talent. Should be used as constructive criticism. If they do take it personal, then maybe they are guilty at not wanting to get better.
The openings footage beautiful.
Statement from Stephanie just reminds fans of Vince's accident and keeps it alive and up front.
Vicki Guerrero--sad, sick and can't even begin to put my mind around this.
Whatever happened to having wrestling on wrestling. The time of opening a show with a match that made people want to watch is gone. Now they have to set the table for the main event and show last week's highlights. All the heat between these guys and only thing stopping them is these invisible walls and air from getting hands on each other. Waste of time? Soap opera? Talk show? Certainly not wrestling!
Rey Mysterio vs Santino Morella
Good move to have Rey on 1st, and Rey tried to have a match but time allotted doesn't give anyone a chance to get it right. Although did try with Santino actually getting a hold and trying to build heat--just wasn't patient and confident enough to take time to build the match. Truth being, probably not allowed time due to time worked on interview. Rey has been one of my favorites ever since I met in Mexico years ago. Sure miss those days.
Kelly Kelly & Mickey James vs Jillian and Layla
Head lock takeover--damn thank you ladies. A few wrestling moves and Layla looked great in corner. So much for tag team. Kelly, SHOW us…
CM Punk vs Snitsky
CM, hear a lot of good things about you and impressed with way you started match, but the finish goes against all logic. That's the bad thing about a finishing maneuver that requires power. Just don't buy it. Mic skills are pretty good, but you have a ways to go when you are facing someone who may need to be lead. Keep seeing sign in audience that says "old school" … wonder why? All the footage of N.O., why? Could have used that time in a match.
Michaels vs Jericho
Angle being done right so far. Let's see what happens tonight. Thank God for that invisible wall keeping them from killing each other. Or do we save all for the PPV? Solid interview on both parties--then again the best interviews are shoot interviews.
Kofi Kinson vs Charlie Haas
Couple of head locks--thought for a minute might do some wrestling. Instead became kick boxing match. Regardless, had people for a moment. Should have stayed in hold, then taken comeback, then switch! Less is more guys! One or two kicks, great, but after so many none mean much.
Paul Burchhill makes statement by doing just a couple of things but going to Batista in back made it seem unimportant! Hold the heat by staying with it, not promo-ing next match. I understand fear of having people change channels, but that's your own fault.
FATAL FOUR WAY
JBL vs Batista vs Cena vs Kane
I was angry at myself this last week and forced myself to watch one of these on Smackdown as punishment and afterwards felt I had been much too hard on myself.
Limo destruction by Cryme Time--let's promote thugs destroying car and graffiti, that's brilliant. Boys, you are just wrong making this funny--no way--happens on the street day in and day out. Serious waste of money but bigger waste of time! Kids remember, don't try this at home!!! Let's all take into account, these are the GOOD guys.
What's up, Kane grabs hold on Cena & took time to get people with it. These guys actually showing some knowledge and taking a little time to get things right only to have commercial break almost 2 minutes--what the hell I was begging for one during interview fiasco's.
Every week stairs moved and used. Do you remember the first time they were used? They meant something then. Batista gets the win. Well the test is set for Punk at Bash. Wonder what they will prove?
Kane's tantrum done exceptionally well! What's that about Kane & Lawler? Where? Memphis maybe!!
In closing, I want to say that whereas last week's show was fairly entertaining, this weeks show stunk to high heaven. In the words of Jay Strongbow, "Brutal."
Here's the big problem--19:13 minutes of wrestling. Holy COW, two hour show less than 20 minutes.
As a talk show, pretty damned good but as wrestling show, probably the worst I have ever seen. WWE doesn't need to worry about over exposure but should consider trying to remember wrestlers need to wrestle to get over. No one given enough time to establish anything. You have the talent available for at least a couple of good matches--wouldn't that promote your product or are you saving that for PPV?
Won't get any results from that if you don't show something other than highlights, interviews, and tits and ass.
J.R., now, you were missed tremendously.
Let's consider this, how about less entrance time, less pyro, less talking less N.O. Bourbon street, less less, wheelchairs, limos, recaps of last week's recaps, highlights of last week's highlights, and just for something totally different grant some time to these men to promote whether they can get over or not with wrestling.
The best cook needs time on the stove, the best model time to get dressed and the best wrestler time to exhibit his talent. Wished I could believe the lackluster performance of talent and some were short of their best but won't point finger just yet. Due to fact must go brush teeth to get this foul taste out of my mouth.
P.S. Worst performance of week in my mind belongs to Mick Foley on Smackdown.
Am I wrong? Unless you are there to promote a new book or be in place for some angle, then this caper will be short lived!
