Bound for Glory IV Preview & Predictions

Submitted By Patrick Kelley on 10/11/08
Bound for Glory, the biggest PPV that TNA has to offer has usually delivered one of the best PPVs of the year. In 2005, TNA overcame losing their main event when Nash pulled out by giving us a great moment where Rhino won the title ala Randy Savage. In 2006, TNA gave us one of their best shows ever with excellent matches, great moments, and the 1st PPV to be held outside of Orlando, making it a huge breath of fresh air. In 2007, they delivered what I felt was TNA's best PPV ever with a great matches & moments, and a very exciting show from start to finish.

This year, Bound for Glory is heading to Chicago and was built under the angle of the Wrestling Veterans vs. The TNA Originals, an angle that has been building since Sting attacked Samoa Joe at Victory Road in July.

Here are my previews & predictions of the matches.

STEEL ASYLUM RETURNS

I'll start here since this will most likely be the opener. Its hard to make a prediction since we don't even have the full list of participants, although you can probably figure it out based on who is not on the card. Lethal, Sonjay, Petey, Sabin, Shelley, Curry Man, Sharky, Super Eric, & maybe Rave are the likely participants. Don't be surprised if Suicide makes his debut, and if that happens he will most likely win. If not, then I'll pick Jay Lethal to win it.

Now what I'm looking for is basically just a crazy spotfest. Thats pretty much all you can expect out of this, and it could make for a really fun and exciting opener.

MIXED TAG TEAM BIMBO BRAWL
"The War Machine" Rhino, ODB, & Rhaka Khan vs. Cute Kip & The Beautiful People
W/Traci Brooks as Guest Referee

Man, did Rhino get screwed this year or what? Hopefully this match is kept short, and since Kip beat Rhino on Impact, I think the faces will win out in what will hopefully be a short filler match.

X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
Sheik Abdul Bashir (c) vs. Consequences Creed

This could be the sleeper hit of the show. Its nice to see some new faces fighting for the X Title but I wish they would have promoted this match more, but I think we can get a really good match out of these two. Bashir is a great heel persona and Creed has proven himself to be a really exciting young talent. I'm going to pick Bashir to retain, but I wouldn't be surprised if Creed won it.

TNA KNOCKOUT CHAMPIONSHIP: 3 WAY MATCH
Taylor Wilde (c) vs. Awesome Kong vs. Roxxi

This is an interesting one. Alot of people I've talked to seem to be looking forward to it, which is good. Its an interesting match up, and Kong has worked very well with both girls in the past. It'll provide good action if nothing else. I am predicting that Taylor will lose the title and Awesome Kong will once again be champion, which will then set up a feud with Roxxi where Roxxi eventually takes the title from her.

I also have this funny feeling that we might see Gail Kim show up and turn heel on Taylor Wilde. I wouldn't count on it happening, but we don't really know for sure where Gail stands with TNA & WWE, and if TNA has a Gail Kim return up their sleeve, BFG would be the perfect place to play that card.

TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: MONSTER'S BALL
Beer Money Inc. (c) vs. The Latin American Xchange vs. Abyss & Matt Morgan vs. Team 3D
W/Steve McMichaels as Guest Referee

This one is going to be pretty wild & crazy. Team 3D seemed to tease things like glass & lighter fluid while Homicide talked about extreme violence, so don't be surprised if he breaks out the trusty fork. Also, you have the current situation with Abyss where he doesn't want to use weapons, so he will probably snap at some point in the match and go crazy again. I can honestly see any of the four teams winning out, but I am going to pick LAX to win back their titles in what is sure to be a violent spectacle.

THREE WAY HEAVYWEIGHTS MATCH
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. "The Instant Classic" Christian Cage vs. Booker T

This has been a well built match from a storyline standpoint as you have a clear cut face in AJ, a clear cut heel in Booker, & a tweener in Christian. Its an interesting match for that alone, and with these guys involved, I think you could have one of the best matches on the show. I'm going to go ahead and pick AJ Styles to win, although like the Monster's Ball, I can see anyone winning it.

RETURN OF THE KING
"The King of the Mountain" Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle
W/Mick Foley as Guest Enforcer

This has definately been the best built match on the card, and it is a TNA Dream Match. You have two guys who have never crossed paths before, and they are definately the two most dominant World Champions in the company's history with Jarrett controlling the main event scene in the first 4 years, and Angle holding it for most of year 5. Add in that Jeff Jarrett is making his return, and you've got yourself a good main event caliber match here.

As for a prediction, I thinK Jarrett has to win. Its his big return, and the fans are really supporting him, and it would make the hype pointless if he didn't win. I am going to say that Jarrett will win with Foley counting the pin, which will then set up Angle vs. Foley.

TNA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
"The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe (c) vs. "The Icon" Sting

This match could go either way and the "No Rematch" clause makes it even more unpredictable. If Sting wins, then that actually allows for the TNA Originals vs. Old Veterans angle to continue. Things are always more interesting if the heels are on top and then eventually take the fall in the end. However, I can also see Joe winning just so they can say that Joe was the 1st champion to survive Sting at Bound for Glory, similar to what they did with King of the Mountain this year.

I'm really looking forward to this match just to see what happens. I keep changing my prediction everyday it seems, but I am going to go ahead and predict that Sting will win the title and then drop the belt to AJ. Like I said, I can see Joe winning to, but I feel like a vet needs to win the title at some point in order to keep the angle going, whether it be Sting, Angle, Booker, or somebody else.

So that's Bound for Glory. I think its has potential to be TNA's Best PPV of the year as alot of the matches are interesting to me, and I'll definately be tuning in!
