"Stone Cold" Steve Austin
- The interview begins with Steve being asked about Ric
Flair who is currently doing an angle where the next time he loses he will
retire. Steve puts him over as the greatest of all time.
- Next question is about Austins new Anthology DVD. Steve says that
whatever isnt on this DVD is on a lot of the previous ones he feels
that you kind of need all the DVDs to really get his entire legacy intact.
- He has some movie roles lined up for next year, but it was slowed down
due to the writers strike (which ended soon after the interview)
- Austin is then asked about Shark Boys recent spoof of him on TNA.
Austin isnt angered by it and feels that if Shark Boy can make money
off of it more power to him
- He was asked again about the DVD, he had some say about what matches went
on the DVD, but also feels that he remembers other peoples careers
better than his own. He said he liked having JR there to help him pick them
out.
- He would have liked to work with Harley Race, Jack Briscoe, Randy Savage,
and Andre the Giant. Those were guys he would have liked to work with but
never got the chance.
- He jokingly said that if he needed the money hed wrestle again, but
feels that hes been out for a while and feels that he doesnt
really need to take an active in ring role.
- Steve feels that the best characters in wrestling are the ones like himself
that are basically just themselves with the volume turned up. Dont
pretend to be something youre not
- When asked about Wrestlemania 24, he says hell probably be there
for the Hall of Fame and be there backstage. He had an idea pitched to him
to appear on camera, but turned it down.
- He feels that early on in WCW he was clearly more mechanical and technically
sound while in WWF he learned the entertainment aspect of it and made it
all work.
- He wants to be remembered as the guy that brought the gray area to wrestling.
He was essentially a heel character that became the biggest babyface of all
time and wants to be remembered for that. He doesnt want to be remembered
for his more lighthearted stuff in recent years.
- Austin says that Vince McMahon was clearly his greatest antagonist. That
feud was the defining part of his career.
- Wrestlemania 24 marks the 10th anniversary of his first World title win.
He says he figured it would happen originally, but once it happened he never
lost sight of things and just sought out to do his job.
- When both Brian Pillman and him were in the WWF together, the idea came
up for them to reunite The Hollywood Blondes tag team, but Austin was getting
his singles career on track at the time while Brian was doing well with the
Loose Cannon gimmick, so there was no reason to team them up. He puts over
Brian as one of his best friends during his time in wrestling.
- Whenever he does something for the WWE, he loves the reaction he gets from
the fans and really appreciates it. However, he also wishes that he could
give them more than what he can now.
- He is asked about what he used to do before he would go out there for a
match. He says a lot of guys would do last minute work outs and oil up, while
Jake Roberts would normally be sitting in the corner with his snake bag slump
over his shoulder and smoking a cigarette. Austin says he used to pour water
on himself (Im very ashy) but other than that all he needed
was to hear the glass break and he knew it was time to work.
- He hasnt heard if anybody has ever tried to mimic his character in
real life (flipping your boss off, drink beer etc.)
- The next question involves how Austin takes care of his shaven head.
- When asked about his injuries, he says he feels real good right now and
it hasnt affected his acting career at all.
- His says that his WCW matches are hard to watch for him. He says he is
very critical of himself.
- He was at the UFC show where Brock Lesnar played a role. He says that Lesnar
had a good showing and has a future in MMA. He also said it was a really
good night of fights over all.
- When asked about The Redneck Triathlon and why it wasnt included
on the DVD, he laughs and says It didnt make the cut
- He says he would like to stick to action movies as that is what he is better
suited for.
- Next few questions comes from the Wrestling Epicenters own James
Walsh: He asks Austin about the DVD and feels it has a lot of good material
but also feels that the previous DVDs need to be seen in order to get the
full gist of his legacy. He also feels the new DVD could have used more extras.
- When asked about the Austin 3:16 t-shirt craze, he recalls
the famous promo from King of the Ring promo and knew after that, he finally
got his big merchandise idea.
- Austin is then asked about the recent stories about him taking Ken Kennedy
under his wing. He says that he is a great talent (he specifically recalls
a match he had with Batista) and he has complemented him. He gives him advice,
but also feels that hes getting too many people in his ear. He says
Kennedy can be a big star, but the WWE needs to let him be his own guy.
- He says that the Billy Graham DVD was one of his favorites mainly because
it had so many guys commenting on his career, and wishes he had that with
his DVD.
- When asked about Good Ol JR, Austin says that he treasures his friendship
with him and says JR was instrumental in getting him into the WWF.
- He once again states that he does not want to be remembered for being a
limited performer which is why he picks and chooses what he does now.
- When asked about politics, he says that he goes with McCain.
- When comparing himself to Hulk Hogan, he says that Hogan was a great babyface
and was perfect in his role. He says that he was completely different as
he was basically a heel character that the fans loved. When getting into
the debate of who was the bigger babyface, him or Hogan, he says he doesnt
really care, but is just proud of the fact that his run was so unique.
- When asked about politics in wrestling, he says that he benefited from
it during the King of the Ring 1996. He says that Triple H was supposed to
win that year, but he was being punished for the MSG incident, and Vince
pulled him aside one day and said told Austin he was going to win the tournament.
- He says he has a few friends that have hunting shows, and would like to
do that as a side project.
- Steve is then told a funny story about a fan that dressed just like him
at a show he went to and Austin says that he loves his fans and appreciates
everything theyve done for him.
- He never thought in a million years that he would ever have a DVD with
footage from three different promotions and feels that he was a big reason
for that happening.
