Where you are from, when did you start wrestling, etc. EGO FANTASTICO : It was the summer of 2001. The sun was full of its bright yellow greatness, the birds sang the songs of love and a young kid from Mexico City, Chicago was entering a warehouse behind a Taco Burrito King (TBK) to learn the craft of pro wrestling, or so he thought! What I learned was how to respect others and take a beating without complaining by one of the old school trainers of the Chicagoland area and a 1980s regular of "WWF Superstars" - Sonny Rodgers. Q: Who has been your toughest opponent & what was your favorite match? EGO: As of today, my toughest opponent is Jimmy Jacobs. We danced in the square circle only once yet i know I'll remember it forever. My favorite match is any match i have with My Mentor, My Friend, My Jewish Brother from a different mother - "Classic" Colt Cabana. We tear it up into 1000 pieces, then duck tape that sucka back together and then tear it up again! Q: As a child growing up, who were your favorite wrestlers to watch on the boob tube or at your local arena? Which one wrestler in particular made you want to lace up the boots and become a professional? EGO: I'll tell you this! My favorite wrestler was the Macho Man, but my least favorite was Hillbilly Jim and I'll tell you why! When I was ages 6-8, I would wrestle with my friends in our backyard and they would never let me be Macho Man! Why?! Well, my mom would sometimes make me wear overalls so those jerks would make me Hillbilly Jim when all i wanted to do was be the Macho! As for what wrestler made me want to lace up the boots, I have to say it was Ron Simmons. When i was 8, i was walking backwards after a show and ran into him wile he was putting his luggage into his car. He hit his head on the trunk door then turned around and yelled at me in front of my uncle! After that, my family would make fun of me saying that Ron Simmons made me look like a fool. From that day on, I swore revenge!!! Q: From a fan's standpoint, which wrestlers in the Insane Wrestling Federation should the fans be keeping a special eye on? Who entertains you? EGO: I'd keep my eye on the whitest Mexican from Chicago EGOTISTICO FANTASTICO but who entertains me the most is the NECRO BUTCHER!! He's a bad taco! Q: There's always talk about how WWE or anyone else at the top has done "the wrong thing" at different times or people ask "why that guy" when they are picked up. Is there anyone you think should have gone up by now to the WWE? EGO: Yeah...a lot of guys I know should be there for lots of different reasons but I look at it this way. If you try everything in your power to get there, you will. It's keeping it that is the hard part because you'll lose it without doing a thing wrong. Q: If there was one thing you could change about wrestling, what would it be? EGO: Make every show have thousands of fans! The more fans in the building, the more fun I have! Q: If you had the chance to pick the brain of one person in wrestling, who would it be? EGO: Karl Gotch...now that he is gone, I've lost the chance but I've talked to a lot of guys that have trained with him and knew him well but nothing would have been like the real thing. Q: Favorite Road Trip Story? EGO: The time someone brought a live goat to a show and Cabana and me let it out of its cage! Oohhhh, the things that happened that day Q: What is the best rib you've ever seen or heard about? EGO: Brian Gorie and Jeff Brooks.......fireball and powder.... Q: If there was one impression you wanted to leave on people, what would it be? EGO: I a fun loving, back flip flipping, Taco bending, bell ringin' son of a gun! Come out to a show I'm at and I promises I will do what I can to entertain everyone there! WORD ASSOCIATION TIME: EGO: I wanted to have fun with this, so I'm going to say the names to my little brother who knows very little about these guys and see what he thinks....hahaha. This weekend, NECW will run one of its biggest weekends in the history of the promotion with the 5th annual IRON 8 Championship on Saturday night, May 31 at the National Guard Armory in Quincy and the 19th annual Hot Dog Safari on Sunday, June 1 at the Suffolk Downs racetrack in East Boston, MA. These are two unique events that we are extremely proud to be associated with. The IRON 8 is truly a unique athletic event. Eight men start, paired into 4 singles matches. The 4 winners then go on to face each other in a 4 way, 45 minute iron man match. Whoever scores the most pinfalls or submissions in the 45 minutes is the winner and that year's IRON 8 Champion. To compete in this event, you have to be able to wrestle for an hour against a high caliber of opponent. The final 4 way is guaranteed to be a match filled with great athletics and great drama. This year's tournament features: "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards (who has won the last two tournaments), Gran Akuma from Chikara, "The Exotic" Kristian Frost, "The Real Deal" Brandon Locke, "The Golden Greek" Alex Arion, "The Natural" Scott Osbourne, former ECW & TNA star, Julio Dinero and from Florida, "The Japanese Nightmare" Kahagas. In addition to the tournament, we have a special mixed tag team "Champion's Challenge" with NECW Triple Crown Champion, "The Mohawked Enforcer" Max Bauer teaming with "The Gorgeous Greek" Elektra Arion taking on the team of former Triple Crown Champion, Big Rick Fuller and World Women's Wrestling Champion, "The Portuguese Princess" Ariel. 5 years ago, New England did not have any kind of top flight annual independent event. The IRON 8 is our attempt to do that and in recent years, particularly since we turned this into a one night event rather than something spread over two nights, it has gelled into a real jewel of our promotion. Bell time for the IRON 8 is 7:00 PM. Tickets are now on sale at all FYE locations, K.C.'s Sportscards, 33 Temple Street in Quincy Center, and online at www.NECWwrestling.com If that were not enough, the following day, Sunday, June 1st, we are priviledged to be part of an extraordinary event for a great cause - Eddie Andelman's 19th Annual Hot Dog Safari. What is a "Hot Dog Safari" you ask? Eddie Andelman, who is a sports talk radio legend in Boston is noted for being one of the nation's great connoisseurs of hot dogs. 19 years ago, he created an event where he got a group of people together to search the area for the best hot dog - a "Hot Dog Safari." The proceeds from the event went to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's The Joey Fund, which funds medical research seeking to cure this terrible disease. The event grew to where dozens of vendors supply a variety of hot dogs, sausages, ice cream sundaes and other treats. For a small admission price ($12 in advance, $15 at the gate, with kids under 6 free) you can eat as much as you like (no extra charge for the food) and the entire gate proceeds go to The Joey Fund. The event draws tens of thousands each year, and for the past three years, New England Championship Wrestling has presented the featured entertainment at the event - a live professional wrestling card. Our matches are free as part of the event. The gates open at 9 am. Wrestling starts at 11 am and continues until somewhere between 3 pm and 4 pm, when the event closes. This year, we will be presenting a 16 man tournament to crown a new NECW Television Champion, plus other bouts including the stars of World Women's Wrestling and the top stars of NECW, including Triple Crown Champion, Max Bauer. We are absolutely thrilled and proud to be a part of this terrific one of a kind event for a very worthy cause.
