Interview featuring 2 interviews that could peak some interest. They are with 2 men with credentials in sports other than wrestling. Yet,
they both seem to fit on a pro wrestling show!
First, UFC's ring announcer Bruce Buffer steps out of the Octagon and into the Epicenter for the first time ever! A great interview with a
nice man as he discusses why he never bothered with pro wrestling, why he loves MMA, and what he thinks the future is of both realms
of entertainment.
Then, James and Patrick discuss the Royal Rumble, Bobby Lashley, and countless other random topics in their world infamous ADD riddled way.
Then, a man who many Internet reports said died in November stops by to say he's still alive. In fact, he's doing very well for himself as a football coach in Nebraska. The former lovable "Evad" Dave "Equalizer" Sullivan!
This broadcast is available for glorious digital audio download at www.wrestlingepicenter.com. It's free as are all of our nearly 400 pro wrestling interviews conducted over the past 5 years! www.WrestlingEpicenter.com!
"EVAD" DAVE "THE EQUALIZER" SULLIVAN
- The interview opens up with James explaining that previous reports of Dave Sullivan having passed away were wrong. Right now, he is a Head Football Coach for a college in Nebraska.
- He’s been out of wrestling for a few years. He says he misses it sometimes, but is also glad that he’s been able to rest his body and not take the beatings anymore. He still has some aches and pains from wrestling and doesn’t know how some of the older guys are still able to do it.
- Dave then explains how he first broke into wrestling, got trained, and then wound up in WCW. He says that he started slow, but things sped up once he got into WCW.
- “The Equalizer” character is brought up. It started with his attitude on the Football field, and they decided to magnify it. Dave has an extensive past in football with several pro teams as a player and a few coaching jobs after that. He says that enjoyed his time in wrestling, but football is his first love.
- When asked about what he thought of the XFL, he felt that Vince tried to mix too much of the wrestling way of doing things into the product and it just didn’t work out.
- The Evad character was fun for him to do. He had a little trouble getting used to having to get into character, but he had fun with it. Every now and then one of his assistant coaches will bring up items from Dave’s wrestling career that they bought on Ebay to joke with him.
- When comparing Evad to the WWE’s Eugene, Dave asks “I wonder where they got that idea” speaking on the obvious similarities between the two gimmicks.
- DDP comes up, and Dave feels that he only got the push because he was Bischoff’s buddy backstage. James had mentioned that some say DDP wasn't as good as he was presented to be while others say he worked his heart out to make up for whatever he lacked in athletic ability. "Do you think DDP was as good as he was pushed to be?," asked James. Sullivan's response was simply, "Did anyone except Bischoff and him?"
- He had a lot of fun working with Hogan and Sting, and has a tremendous amount of respect for Sting. He was a little distant from Hogan because of Hogan's star status, but always got along with him.
- Another one of his favorites to work with was Big Bubba Rogers (Big Bossman) The whole thing with Bubba being allergic to Ralph the Rabbit was fun and he regrets that we lost him a few years ago.
- When asked about why he was dropped off TV despite his popularity, he says he has no idea. Somebody pulled the plug obviously, but he doesn’t know who or why. He says it is possible it was DDP and Bischoff who did but he doesn't know and doesn't lose sleep over it.
- After WCW, he was left with a sour taste in his mouth, but he had fun working the Indy shows at the end of his career. He retired in 1999 and says a lot of the indy shows he did do was because people seemed to want to see the "Evad" character. He didn't have high aspirations of ending up in the WWE or anything.
- Once again comparing football to wrestling, he says it does take a different mindset getting your mind set for football and wrestling, especially since with wrestling the goal is to put on a show.
- The interview concludes with him giving a special message to his fans that thought he had actually passed away, and appreciates the fans that still remember his work in wrestling.
