Tough Enough 3's Scott Chong

Submitted By James Walsh on 12/02/05
A double header of interviews accidentally omitted from the run of interviews put up, are finally here. Fresh off our huge interview with Zach Gowen, his first after his WWE release, we bring to you yet two more completely different viewpoints on the wrestling business in Scott Chong (pictured) and Doug Williams.

Scott was on Tough Enough 3, and gives a humerous look back on his time there, including seeing another competitor naked, and getting so drunk one night that he was hospitalized! Doug is viewed by most as the best UK technician of current times, or at least in the top few. He has also had outings in Japan and the States, and gives a view of working a load of countries around the world, as well as being a big fish in the relatively small UK pond.

SCOTT CHONG & DOUG WILLIAMS

-- "It's a cold and snowy day in Virginia. So, if his phone cuts out, that's why," Scott Chong informs James.

-- When his family moved to America from Korea, his grandmother would baby-sit his cousins and him. During that time, he'd watch wrestling. He always wanted to be a wrestler even before Tough Enough came about. So, when Tough Enough became an option, he took it.

-- Scott loved Ricky Steamboat, Macho Man, Bret Hart, and the Ultimate Warrior. Scott was not a Hulkamaniac but as always liked Hogan. He also liked a lot of tag team competition with the classic Steiner Brothers being his favorite, "Back when Scott Steiner had the mullet." But, watching Ricky Steamboat and Bret Hart is what made him decide professional wrestling was what he wanted to do.

-- Scott met Ricky Steamboat at a recent Fan Slam convention. Chong was signing autographs and walked over to meet Ricky. He ended up speaking to him for a short time. He feels Ricky is a great man. Scott then goes on to hope Ricky appears at Wrestlemania XX because MSG would be the perfect place for it.

-- Scott feels the Asian culture indicates school to be priority number 1. So, right after Tough Enough, he returned to college. But, he always wanted to be in wrestling and in his high school yearbook, he has it documented. Where it asks what his future ambitions are, he said he was going to the WWF. So, while everyone on Tough Enough said being a wrestler was what they wanted to do, he knows for sure that when he says it, it's legitimate.

-- Scott found out about Tough Enough 1 the day applications were due. Scott likes "Reality TV" so he looked forward to watching it. He applied for Tough Enough 2 and was so confident he'd get on the program he took a semester off of college for it. They didn't even call him for a try out. So, he was depressed. As a result, he went all out for his audition tape of Tough Enough 3 and got the call back.

-- "No fear" is his philosophy in life. He realized Tough Enough 3 could be his last opportunity to do this so he realized he had to do something out there to be noticed. So, he danced around with a paper bag over his penis. His parents weren't exactly thrilled by this but "Hey, it worked."

-- The only thing different about his Tough Enough 2 audition tape and his Tough Enough 3 audition tape was the paper bag part. The rest was almost the same. So, he figures if he had done the same thing for Tough Enough 2, he would have made it. But, he wouldn't trade being on Tough Enough 3 for anything.

-- The second Scott stepped on the Tough Enough set, he knew he had to work the hardest of all the people there because he was the smallest. "Some of the girls were as big as I was," Chong added. "Persistence pays off" was the phrase Chong used during his time on the program. He wanted to prove to everyone that he wants this. And, he's still doing it today. He feels he has worked nearly as many shows if not more shows than anyone else from the Tough Enough series since he left. Plus, he still is attending college and working a job. He's too busy for his own good!

-- Scott feels not everyone has the same style of living. His parents had to work all the time just to make ends meet. So, nobody really taught him to ride a bike. His cousin tried but his cousin, well, "is a dick and still is to this day" so he never learned. John from Tough Enough finished the ride in half the time it took everyone else and came back to help Chong out. That said, Scott tells us Matt and John are the two best friends he made from the series.

-- Danny from Tough Enough 2 lives nearby. So, he has been giving Scott advice. Paulina from Tough Enough 1 has been too. Scott also speaks to Al Snow and Bill DeMott on occasion but that is more out of friendship than business.

-- Taking the cane shot from Tommy Dreamer was "an honor" for Scott. He was surprised they let him do it but he jumped at the opportunity. He loves Tommy Dreamer because he was a big ECW fan and is a big hardcore wrestling fan, giving Crash Holly a lot of credit for that, so, again, it was an honor. But, when he leaned over and took the shot, his body went numb for 15 seconds. He felt like he had been shot. "It was the most physical pain I've ever been in in my life," said Chong.

-- The first trip he made to the hospital on the series was more of a production request than his own. The He tore ligaments in his finger from the Volleyball incident. The next day he looked at it and it looked horrible. As for the second trip, Scott has nothing against people who drink. But, he never was taught to drink responsibly. So, yes it numbs the pain but it is not great for you.

-- One night, Tommy Dreamer took the Tough Enough guys out to dinner "Tommy Dreamer style." It was at a Tai Restaurant so they had expectations of what the meal would be. When it came time to eat dinner, they remembered something Tommy did on TV by eating weird things. So, their meal was worms, a water bug, a scorpion, and things that are just not usually feud. So, Scott ended up throwing up in the bathroom but he is still glad to have shared the experience with Tommy.

-- Scott's debut match was against "The Extreme Referee" from ECW. Scott jokes, "I was literally pissing in my pants, pun intended." Chong was supposed to lose the match but when he put the guy in a Boston Crab, he tapped out as a nod to Chong. So, that will always be his most memorable match.

-- Chong recently refereed a match between Jerry Lynn and Kid Kash. He had never refereed a match previously but everyone says he did a great job. When he graduates college, he plans to go after his wrestling goals 110%.

-- There may be a Tough Enough stigma but he's been treated well.

-- Scott then asks us to hold on as he is being pulled over by the police. First we brought you Steve Corino at a fast food restaurant, now we bring you a guy nearly being pulled over by the cops! Is there any doubt why we're the best Internet audio show going today?

-- Chong has plans to get his web site fully operational again. He is fortunate to have fan sites that post his dates and such for him and he is honored to have them.

-- We then roll into Word Associations which ended up being one of our funniest to date. Hysterical responses to Al Snow, Paulina, and others as well as a very interesting response to Jonah!

-- Scott then compliments us on the interview and hard sells the show for a second for us. What a guy!

We then play a new song called "Got No Glory" by Tesla. If you like the song, check out Tesla's new album called "Into the Now" due out March 9 in record stores everywhere!
