According to Pwinsider.com, Washington State Govenor Jay Inslee signed a bill yesterday that officially created a license for “theatrical” pro wrestling school; this bill will allow the schools an easier path to scheduling and running public performances. Local promotion Lucha Libre Volcanica and others pushed for the bill, as they were looking for a way to make it easier for smaller promotions to run independent events in the State. Under the new bill, licensed “theatrical wrestling schools” would be allowed to have a certain amount of public performances a year as long as a required emergency aid is present at the events.
In the past, Washington’s Department of Licensing required independent wrestling promoters to pay $1 per ticket sold as well as six percent of money made from any event, on top of the costs of licensing those competing as well as the costs of paramedics and an ambulance to stand by at the event in case of emergency.
