Few things work me up the way football does. The thing is, I admit I get worked up and I love to get worked up. Hey, if you went through life without something that ignites your passion, what good is life? For that matter, wrestling excites me on much the same level but also an intellectual level. I love when they tell a story that is just amazing. No, I don't just mean an angle where there's 6 midgets and a hand birthed. I mean in the ring, a story being told that just is more than 2 guys fighting it out but a work of art. Those who have seen what I mean don't need it explained. Those who haven't, no explanation is possible.
And, music challenges me. As I age, I find myself remembering a 9th grade assignment where we had to bring in a song that speaks to us lyrically. We listened to a lot of music that day. I brought in Out Ta Get Me by Guns N Roses. Do I need to explain why? Well, I'll post the lyrics below. But, it goes without saying that no one, none of the other classmates, brought anything quite as edgy or daring. It was mostly Top 40 crap for the year which, for those keeping score at home, was 1996.
Lyrics:
Been hidin' out
And layin' low
It's nothing new ta me
Well you can always find a place to go
If you can keep your sanity
They break down the doors
And they rape my rights but
They won't touch me
They scream and yell
And fight all night
You can't tell me
I lose my head
I close my eyes
They won't touch me
'Cause I got somethin'
I been buildin' up inside
For so f***in' long
They're out ta get me
They won't catch me
I'm f***ing innocent
They won't break me
Sometimes it's easy to forget where you're goin'
Sometimes it's harder to leave
And every time you think you know just what you're doin'
That's when your troubles exceed
They push me in a corner
Jest to get me to fight but
They won't touch me
They preach and yell
And fight all night
You can't tell me
I lose my head
I close my eyes
They won't touch me
'Cause I got somethin'
I been buildin' up inside
I'm already gone
They're out ta get me
They won't catch me
I'm innocent
So you can
Suck me
Take that one to heart
See, I was having trouble at this age. The people I grew up believing were friends had nothing to do with me at about age 12 or 13. I am what I am. I was just as forward and self confident in my youth as I am now. Going through the shit I went through and the teasing by former friends only made me stronger. And, I am still standing.
So why did I make this post? Simply to say this. I'm not a hard guy to please. Give me a good football game, pro or college, without the gaga about tne Anthem and I'll be a happy camper. Give me a good wrestling match that tells a story and I'll be firing on all cylinders meaning I'll be creatively off the charts and also simply entertained. Or, give me a good rock 'n' roll band that gets that life is about overcoming bullshit and having a good time in spite of it. I'm not a hard man to make happy. And, after a day of really solid football games where I tried to ignore the Anthem crap and a little loud rock 'n' roll in my headset as I did the business work for the Wrestling Epicenter, I'm a pretty contented guy right now. I look forward to Lucha Underground on Wednesday and Impact Wrestling on Thursday to complete my pleasure trifecta.
