THE RANT: Happy Sweet 16, Impact Wrestling!

Posted By James Walsh on 06/19/18

June 19, 2002. Impact Wrestling began. The company was known as NWA TNA then. The NWA name was used to signify the company's dedication to tradition to appeal to the WCW fans. The TNA was a play on the T&A expression to show that the show would be edgy. The result was something special. And, the promotion is why I, James Walsh, stayed a wrestling fan after being disillusioned when ECW and WCW both closed in early 2001. I explain it like what if Chocolate killed every other flavor of ice cream and that is all you could get? Well some might still eat chocolate with a smile. Me? I'd just not eat ice cream anymore.

Impact has changed a lot in the past 16 years. But, the first episode of Impact that aired on this day in 2002 still sits on my wrestling library shelves in a custom VHS cover for sentimental reasons. I mean it when I say I've been a fan of this promotion from day one. And, to say it means a lot that Impact values the Wrestling Epicenter, a creation I founded and that my wife and I have built over the past 15 years, means a lot to me.

Happy Birthday, Impact Wrestling. And, thank you!
