WWE & 2k Sports File to Have Randy Orton Tattoo Lawsuit Dismissed

Posted By Caroline Walsh on 07/10/18

It was reported back in April that artist Catherine Alexander filed a lawsuit against WWE and 2K in the United States District Court of Southern District of Illinois over Randy Ortonís tattoos in WWE 2K18. She is suing for copyright infringement over the designs of the tattoos, as she has been his artist since 2003. Alexander had requested a jury trial and is seeking the court to rule that the tattoos are her copyrighted works and that the defendants infringed against her, and obviously, wants the court to rule that she is owed damages.

Pwinsider.com reports that WWE and 2K each filed motions to dismiss the lawsuit brought against them by tattoo artist Catherine Alexander in the United States District Court of Southern District of Illinois yesterday. 2K claims that the lawsuit should be dismissed for several reasons, including Alexander that has not obtained copyright registrations on any of the designs that he is alleging to own. claimed that the lawsuit against them should be dismissed for lack of personal jurisdiction, providing a 22-page memorandum for the court that stated that Alexander failed to prove that the court in Illinois has any jurisdiction over WWE, given they are incorporated in Delaware and are headquartered in Connecticut.
