President's State of the Union Address Trumps SmackDown! Rating

Smackdown’s ratings fell victim to politics, as the episode was down against the State of the Union speech. Tuesday night’s episode brought in a 0.64 rating in the 18 – 49 demographic and 1.841 million viewers, down 9% and 14% from last week’s 0.7 demo rating and audience of 2.137 million. Both numbers were the lowest of the year for Smackdown, with the previous lows being the New Year’s Day episode (0.68 rating, 2.091 million viewers).

A lot of the blame can be placed on the State of the Union, which dominated the ratings for the night. The top 9 shows on cable were almmost all related to the President’s address, with the #1 spot going to Fox News’ coverage (1.50 demo rating, 11.266 million viewers). The various post-Union analyses on various networks (and CNN’s coverage) hit the rest of the spots along with Curse of Oak Island, which came in at #8 for History Channel (0.7 demo rating, 3.123 million viewers). Smackdown was #10 per Showbuzz Daily.
