ASYA & JEREMY LOPEZ INTERVIEWS ONLINE

In one of our most interesting double header listens this side of 2004, TII tackles both the wonderful lady formerly known as Asya in WCW, Christy Torborg, and Jeremy Lopez.

Both Lopez (Japan) and Asya (Inactive) have been out of the American limelight for some considerable time now, so this double header is a catch up to see what's been goin' down for both, since we last heard of them.

ASYA & JEREMY LOPEZ

-- He was a wrestling fan growing up, for definite. He’d sit and watch WWF and NWA, and decided that was what he wanted to do. He then looked into it, and was trained by Dean Malenko.

-- Daniel mentions something he read whilst checking up on Jeremy’s official website, JeremyLopez.net, where Jet Jaguar had an announcer call Jeremy “Superstar”. He explains the whole story.

-- Jeremy then talks about some of his musical favourites, such as 3 Doors Down and Creed.

-- Talk then turns to his WCW dark match at Bash At The Beach. Himself and Tony Mamaluke faced off against Jet Jaguar and Jamie Knoble. Jeremy says he attributes the contract he (and the other 3 guys) received right after that match to Chris Kanyon, as he feels it was 100% his influence who got them hired.

-- Speaking of Jamie Knoble, Jeremy says he believes that WWE should use Jamie in a different way – for example, whilst he’s a funny guy to an extent, it’s not his main strength.

-- He was never really given a reason for being released, but basically was just told “we’re going to release you… seeya later”.

-- Jeremy felt that since Saturday Night wasn’t really a part of a storyline, they got to just go out there and have some great matches to entertain the crowd.

-- The next section of the interview centers around NWA Wildside and guys who came out of there such as AJ Styles. He also talks about his Junior Heavyweight title victories in the federation, as well as his bouts against the other talent such as Slim J.

-- He had a tryout with NWA:TNA, and he feels that he likes to tell a story with his matches, but the X Division is just high-flying finish fest with lots of kickouts, where they don’t establish their moves.

-- Jeremy then speaks about his time in Osaka-Pro as Black Tigers, where he eventually lost his mask in a Mask vs. Mask match against Tiger Mask. He was supposed to be there 6 months, but ended up staying a year. He was a heel, and being a heel over there is way different to in America, as in America you can insult the crowd but since they don’t understand English in Japan he had to just chant USA.

-- He prefers working in Japan as over there they respect your technical ability and skills more than your looks. He feels by having the right look in America you can make it big instantly.

-- After finishing up on his most recent tour of Japan with Osaka Pro he spent a little time with All Japan. They don’t usually give dates for returns anymore, so Jeremy doesn’t know at the moment when he will be back over there.

-- Jeremy then gives his opinion on being ranked in the PWI Top 500, in that he feels PWI is pretty much a joke, with names just thrown together. After the first 50 he says it pretty much gets ridiculous, and the first 100 are pretty much just people who are popular on the internet.

-- Recently Jeremy worked a Sunday Night Heat match as well as a dark match for WWE at the RAW and Smackdown Tapings. However, when his Heat match aired he and his partner were given fake names by Al Snow. Jeremy gives his thoughts on why this was done, but there were no formal discussions that he knows of about being signed. He would like to join the WWE roster at some stage, though.

-- Breif discussion is about the Teddy Hart situation with Ring of Honor, and Jeremy’s experiences in the promotion as he has worked there for a few dates in the past.

-- We then hit the word associations with names such as Todd Sexton, Alexis Laree, Jamie Knoble, Tony Mamaluke, Taka Michinoku, Jimmy Rave, Dean Malenko and Chris Kanyon.

-- His message to the fans is to keep watching, and if anybody wants to book him anywhere around the world, you can contact him directly.

-- And remember, for more information on Jeremy Lopez (‘Superstar’ himself), check out www.jeremylopez.net.

Asya

-- Since wrestling, she's just had a fun time riding her horses and relaxing.

-- She was in competitive sports when she was 9 years old. She was a runner until she was 25. She received a scholarship for cross country and track. After that, she got into bikini modelling.

-- While in Oklahoma, she earned Miss Hawaiian Tropics. She started working out to stay in shape for that. She got hooked by seeing the results and that is how she got involved in bodybuilding.

-- Being named "Women's Strongest Bodybuilder" in 1997 was great. She got the invite in 1997 and didn't want to go because she was so intimidated and did not think she'd win. The free trip is why she went. But, at the end she kept going and she won it.

-- She always was interested in pro wrestling. She loved the moves. She was working at a gym in Daytona Beach, Florida. Kevin Nash and Kevin Sullivan. Nash and Sullivan came into the gym one day and offered her a spot to walk to the ring at a house show. Nash called a few days later and asked if she wanted to "play wrestling." She said absolutely and they paired her with Ric Flair.

-- Her memory of being "Double D" with Ric Flair and being around all those actors acting crazy is one she looks fondly upon. She laughs and says she should not have been paid to be having so much fun.

-- At WCW, she'd see stories suddenly change. She said you saw it changing and felt you could've had more build up to stories and with angles and it just never really went anywhere. You could see what was going wrong, but you just couldn't say anything.

-- She was the very first female to go to the WCW Power Plant & was to be the first of the bunch to go to train. So, they sent her between the Flair angle and the Revolution. Sarge put them through "boot camp" and Paul Orndorff helped as did Mike Graham.

-- Asya is a name that was absolutely a play on the name Chyna. The play was supposed to be that Asia is bigger than China. It was WCW's idea.

-- Vince Russo's ideas were great and creative though the stories were going way too fast. She feels they could've built them up much more than they were.

-- Wrestling Eddie Guerrero in the match and getting the frog splash at the end was fun. She would want to wrestle men. She said it hurts, but you feel safer. "You're more alive!"

-- She is a big fan of Trinity from NWA TNA. She saw her work Kid Kash and wants to wrestle her badly. Chyna, on the other hand is "old news."

-- Madusa is awesome in her opinion. She is rough on the girls but she has to be. She's rough on the girls and herself as well. She was a good trainer.

-- Wrestling Madusa was intimidating. "Madusa is the real deal."

-- When the Radicals went to the WWE, she had Vince Russo telling her she'd be pushed anyway so she wasn't bothered. Next thing she knew, it affected her dramatically. "It came to an end after they left."

-- Vampiro is a great person to work with and "believe it or not, a real gentleman." He was very worried about not wanting to hurt her but she told him to bring it on.

-- The story where Vampiro kidnapped her was rushed. She said it was a great story that just ended way too quickly.

-- The reason about her release was never disclosed. She was shocked by it. She was being told that they had an angle for her and Madusa and wanted her to learn some new moves. They told them to go home and "don't worry" and whenever you hear "don't worry," you should worry.

-- She works the Indy scene a little but she's not really trying to get back in too much.

-- When she was released by WCW, she tried to talk to the WWE. But, she quit perusing but, in terms of wrestling she'd rather just work with her husband, "Demon" Dale Torborg.

-- She wasn't surprised by the sale of WCW. She made sarcastic remarks about the future of WCW to Dale and knew Vince would end up owning it. She felt it had to be him. He was too brilliant.

-- She and Dale met at the WCW Power Plant. "He was great to me there. I wasn't nervous but you feel sort of lost and he really made me feel at ease."

-- Working for TNA with Dale is something she'd like to do but she hasn't given it enough thought. If offered, she'd consider.

-- She then thanks her fans for all the support they gave her in her life both in wrestling and before and thanks those who have not forgotten

-- Plus word associations with people like Shane Douglas, Ric Flair, David Flair, Eric Bischoff, Vampiro, Kevin Nash, Sarge, Vince Russo, Lita, Miss Elizabeth, and "The Demon" Dale Torborg!
