LOW KI INTERVIEW ONLINE |
He's a favorite son of the Internet community. His
martial arts and unique offence has turned a lot of heads. As a matter of
fact, his martial arts were so well appreciated by Jimmy Hart and the XWF
they changed his name to "Quick Kick" in the promotion!
The former Ring of Honor and Total Nonstop Action superstar
joins us in our very first text only interview!
LOW
KI
--
TII: Who are some of the wrestlers that influenced you to get involved
in the business?
LK: I watched WWWF, NWA, WWF, AWA and WCW. I never had the intent
on being a wrestler, until I began training. My all time favorite was the
GREAT MUTA.
--
TII: Other than wrestling, what kind of athletic background do you
have?
LK: I played football and basketball when I was in school, as well
as Aikido with my family.
--
TII: With your in ring style anything but low-key, where did the name
Low Ki come from?
LK: Actually came from a song. "No Diggity" by Blackstreet. The rhyme
was "very low key on the profile". Im not a flashy person, Im
quiet. Figured it fit.
--
TII: You wrestled several matches for the WWE. Were you ever under
contract there?
LK: No. I was just there in the "enhancement" matches.
--
TII: Is there any chance you would sign with them in the future?
LK: Time will tell.
--
TII: How did you end up working for NWA TNA?
LK: I was called for the first event they had. Then I was given a
match.
--
TII: You were a part of the first X Division title match ever squaring
off with Psychosis, AJ Styles, and Jerry Lynn. What is your memory of that
match?
LK: We had to go out and deliver something special to the new fans.
I think we did that.
--
TII: Many look back at the history of the X division and don't think
it has been the same since yourself, AJ Styles, and Jerry Lynn put your best
foot forward in it early in the history of TNA. Do you feel the current X
division is the same calibre as the early days?
LK: I dont think theyre given the chance we had. We were
given an opportunity to showcase what we had in singles matches. Now there
are more multiple matches to get a look at more wrestlers at one time.
--
TII: What lead to you being off NWA TNA programming in the fall of
2002 before coming back with Sports Entertainment Extreme?
LK: They wanted to sign the new talent to long term contracts. I
dont want to be under contract with anyone until I have enough experience.
So it was just a difference of opinion.
--
TII: Triple X and America's Most Wanted's matches are being hailed
as some of the best of 2003 and you were involved in many of them. How did
you enjoy working with Chris Harris and James Storm?
LK: They're very talented and look great as a team. But of course,
they're not Triple X.
--
TII: A former guest of our show is a guest that many have said you
are seeing behind the scenes. If you are comfortable saying, what is your
relationship with Lollipop?
LK: We work for the same company but thats it. I was loving
it when I heard there were rumors about being an item...I kinda thought she
was hot.
--
TII: Where do you prefer wrestling more, the US or Japan?
LK: Japan. Its a sport over there. You must be well conditioned and
ready for it. Over here, its no longer special.
--
TII: How do you answer claims that you are "too stiff?"
LK: Im a fighter, a pro wrestler. Last I checked it was a physical
sport. I dont think anyone would tell Warren Sapp hes being too
rough.
--
TII: Did the incident with [Dan] Maff have an effect on you personally?
LK: No. I hit him hard but that wasnt what hurt him. He whipped
his head back on the mat and put himself for a loop.
--
TII: Recently, we had Gabe from Ring of Honor on our audio program.
He said you have an ego and there was little chance you'd be back with Ring
of Honor in the future. First, why did you no show a recent ROH show and
secondly, what may have given Gabe the opinion that you have an ego?
LK: For starters, I didnt No show. No show just doesnt
show up and without explanation. I stood in Japan for Zero One. He didnt
seem to like it because I was involved in the main event. He was the one
who said "we parted". I had never said that. As far as the Ego goes, it appears
hes upset I wasnt there for that event so hes venting to
you in order to make himself appear to be a professional booker. Sorry to
say, but that seems a little unprofessional.
--
TII: You've been back with TNA the past few weeks as a part of the Triple
Chance X division concept. Do you intend on being with NWA TNA long term?
LK: Not at the moment.
--
TII: Do you have a website that fans can find out the latest on your career?
LK: Yes, http://www.low-ki.com.
