EMIL NAUCKE
May 2, 1855 - January 24, 1900
 

Emil Naucke (* 2. May 1855 on Poel ; † 24. January 1900 in Hamburg ) was a German professional wrestler and Artist .

 

Naucke originally had started our as a baker's apprentice, but joined an artist group, at the age of 14 years, with which he travelled Europe and the USA. Successfully he was in show business as a professional wrestler. Since his body weight constantly increased - he he weighed in at a height of only 1.70 m at the age of 38 years finally 235 kg and had a waist circumference of 190 cm - he gave the rings but later completely and concentrated on power acrobatics , artistic performances and parodies .

 

As at the time extremely popular, strongman Emil Naucke appeared, worldwide, in circuses and variety shows. He presented sensational feats of strength, such as just lifting a 106 kg heavy iron weight and was often on a chain, a nearly 40-kilogram iron ball with him, with which he played effortlessly. He also showed wheeled feats and entered into numerous skits written especially for him. Among his most famous comic roles included the figure of Pauline from the ballet, which he in a given his corpulence grotesque acting Ballerina embodied dressed costume. As Naucke with the timpani he was with Berliners proverb.

 

In 1890 he settled in Hamburg, however, was initially only between his tours present in the city, until he in 1896 a private Varietétheater named Emil Naucke's Variety on Spielbudenplatz No. 23/24 opened. Naucke was a popular figure in Hamburg in the following years.

 

On 24 January 1900 immediately after he appeared at a charity event, in Establishment Sagebie,l Emil Naucke succumbed to a heart attack . On the day of his funeral, thousands of people lined the way the funeral of his vaudeville to Cemetery Ohlsdorf took, where he was buried.

 

The memory of Emil Nauckes extraordinary appearance lived indirectly to the 1970 continuing years; seventy years after his death children designated in Hamburg a bulbous gyro or a thick marble occasionally as a Naucke.
